Serial number tracking for ShipStation.
ShipStation has no field for a serial number, a lot number or a UDI. It is one of the most requested features on their community forum, and it is the reason SerialTrack exists. Scan the order, scan the unit, and what you scanned goes into that order's notes in ShipStation.
What the ShipStation integration does.
One API key, pasted into your settings page. Nothing to install in ShipStation, and no change to how your orders get there.
Scan the order, see the order
Scan an order number, a SKU or the carrier tracking number. SerialTrack looks it up in ShipStation, so the packer can see the customer and what should be in the box before anything goes in it.
Serial, lot or UDI written to Internal Notes
Every value you scan goes into that order's Internal Notes field, in a format you control. A UDI arrives split into its parts, so the note carries the serial number, the lot and the expiry date rather than one long string.
Barcodes on your packing slips
ShipStation's default packing slip barcode is a private format that only their software reads. Copy the template and add a standard Code 128 barcode, and the order number becomes scannable. The step-by-step version is here.
Search it back out later
By order number, tracking number, serial number, lot, GTIN or expiry date. Whichever one the person asking you has.
If your products carry a 2D UDI barcode, one scan captures the GTIN, serial number, lot and expiry date together. All four go on the record against that ShipStation order. Nothing changes in ShipStation, and all you need is a scanner that reads 2D codes. How UDI capture works, and which scanners read them.
Two things to know before you start.
Scan before the order is marked Shipped
ShipStation stops accepting note changes once an order is shipped. So the scan has to happen while the box is still open. That is where it belongs anyway: at the packing station, before the label goes on.
Serial numbers attach to the order, not the line item
We have tried matching to line items, and it cannot be done reliably. To pick the right line we would need the SKU, and often even that is not enough. The order-level note is what almost everyone needs, because the customer information is at the order level too.
If you really do need line items, tell us what identifiers you have and we will look at it.
Start recording on the next shipment.
Connect your store, scan one order, and look at the record. About five minutes to set up, and nothing to pay for thirty days.
